Diesel Defence Fuel Polishing Systems

General Information

Diesel Defence: treat the cause not the symptom

Clean fuel does not stay clean for long. Your stored fuel is under constant attack. Grit and dirt can enter from the atmosphere. Rust falls off the inside of the tank. Water enters via air vents and new deliveries. Bacteria grows as the water content rises. In short, biodiesel degrades unless it’s maintained.

Diesel Defence fuel polishing systems preserve the quality of stored diesel fuel for critical applications such as standby generators and fire pumps.
Why are Diesel Defence fuel polishing units better than filtration systems?

Diesel contamination has many causes. Filtration systems only clean fuel as it passes from your storage tanks to your generators. They remove debris but do nothing to clear the problems that created the debris. They can, for example, remove microbial growth (a.k.a. the diesel bug) before it damages your engines and generators but they can’t remove the water in the storage tank that allowed the diesel bug to grow. Unless the problem is treated at the tank, filtration systems will be under a constant threat of being overwhelmed.

IPU’s Diesel Defence fuel polishing systems work at the tank, removing microbial growth (a.k.a. the diesel bug), water and particulate contaminants such as dirt, soot and rust.

Diesel Defence units eradicate contaminants more thoroughly than single-pass filtration systems by circulating the stored fuel up to seven times before it passes to the day tank or your generators. Circulation prevents pockets of dirty fuel or water collecting in stagnant parts of your tanks and stops the biodiesel component of your fuel separating out and sinking to the bottom of the tank.

IPU’s Diesel Defence fuel polishing systems also combine filtration, circulation and treatment. Unit options can automatically dose your fuel with ADV fuel stabilisers, killing the diesel bug and isolating the water molecules that would allow them to regrow.

Isn’t filtration a cheaper way to protect my generators and engines?

Relying on filtration has two shortcomings. Firstly, without treating the causes of contamination your filters will be under constant bombardment and at risk of being overwhelmed. Clogged filters will starve your generators of fuel and cause critical power failure.

Secondly, filters need replacing. The more contaminants they have to remove, they more frequently they need replacing. This places a triple burden on your finances: the cost of the filters, the labour taken to replace them and the cost of the maintenance regime that checks their condition.

Removing the causes of contamination with a fuel polishing system is the most cost-effective and efficient route to clean fuel and reliable power.

For storage tanks under 2,500 litres

For smaller tanks (under 2,500 litres), bowsers and drums IPU has a range of mobile fuel polishing buggies that provide the same Diesel Defence protection but in a mobile solution.

They can be useful for power and plant rental businesses, freight, transport companies and farms that require a mobile system to economically clean multiple tanks in different locations.

Just like the on-tank Diesel Defence units, our fuel polishing buggies attack the root cause of diesel contamination not just its symptoms. For further information use this link.
