Bifuel System in Aquaculture

Nova Austral is dedicated to salmon farming, from eggs to commercial size. In Tierra del Fuego, near the city of El Porvenir, Chile, they built one of the largest and most modern plants for this market. The place is inhospitable and has no electrical grid. However, it has all the perfect requirements for the commercial development of this activity.

Nova Austral’s decision to apply the BiFuels system for their gensets is because they have natural gas available, but in winter, the distribution company may reduce or cut service to industrial plants. For this reason, the BiFuel solution is ideal, as it provides significant cost reductions when gas is available, and in the absence of gas supply, the plant continues operating 100% on diesel.

The generation plant was planned from its conception with four CAT C32 gensets, designed for BiFuel use. Nova Austral decided to install our BiFuel system in their new engines, viewing Servintel as a strategic and locally supported partner.
This implementation not only allows Nova Austral to reduce operational costs but also ensures continuous and efficient operation, even in adverse conditions. The BiFuel system offers the necessary flexibility to adapt to fluctuations in gas supply, ensuring that salmon production is not affected by interruptions in natural gas service.
Nova Austral’s choice to partner with Servintel highlights their confidence in the expertise and technical support we provide, ensuring their operations in one of the world’s most challenging environments remain safe and efficient. This collaboration underscores Nova Austral’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in the aquaculture industry.
