Control and Monitoring System on the ARA Petrel Ship

The ARA Petrel is a SWATH-type hydrographic vessel intended for the Argentine Naval Hydrography Service, with a length of 30 meters, a beam of 9.60 meters, and a draft of 2.10 meters.

It has a 15-day autonomy due to its fuel tank capacity and water and wastewater distillation systems. Its propulsion consists of two Scania diesel engines of 450 hp each, reaching a speed of 12 knots.

Servintel designed a generation control system for its two generators, controlled by InteliLite4 AMF25 controllers in a Dual AMF application, ensuring the vessel’s safe operation in case of failure. One of the generators acts as a backup for the other, becoming the main one in case of an emergency.

Built at the Tandanor shipyard in Buenos Aires, the ARA Petrel (Q-17) was launched in November 2022 and is a vessel of the Naval Hydrography Service (SHN).

As a hydrographic vessel, its operating environment will be the Río de la Plata estuary and the Argentine Sea. Initially designed for river navigation, it was redesigned to navigate in the sea.
