Control and Monitoring System on the High-Speed Vessel Francisco

The Francisco is the world’s first high-speed vessel powered by LNG as its main fuel. This vessel provides passenger transport services across the Río de la Plata between Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Montevideo, Uruguay. It has a capacity for over 1,000 passengers and 150 cars, reaching a maximum speed of 53 knots and typically operating at speeds between 47 and 50 knots.
The Francisco’s main power generation plant consists of four CAT C18 generator sets of 340 kW each. Additionally, it has two CAT C9 generator sets of 200 kW each for the gas turbine propulsion services. The entire energy management system is controlled by InteliSys controllers, and monitoring is carried out using InteliMonitor.

The use of InteliSys controllers in energy management ensures efficient and safe operation of all the ship’s electrical systems. These controllers enable advanced and precise management of energy consumption, ensuring all components work in harmony and optimizing the use of LNG as the main fuel.

InteliMonitor software provides a robust platform for real-time supervision of the entire power generation system. Through this tool, operators can continuously monitor the status of the generators, identify potential issues before they become critical failures, and adjust operational parameters to maintain optimal vessel performance.
The Francisco stands out not only for its technological innovation in using LNG but also for its commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency. The implementation of advanced control and monitoring systems like InteliSys and InteliMonitor underscores the vessel’s focus on safety and reliability in its daily operations, offering a secure and comfortable travel experience for its passengers.
In addition to its technical capabilities, the Francisco represents a significant step towards adopting cleaner and more efficient technologies in the maritime transport sector, contributing to emission reduction and environmental preservation in the Río de la Plata region.
