Control System in the SB-15 Tango Coast Guard

The PNA SB-15 Tango, acquired by the Argentine Naval Prefecture in 2005, is a 50.29 m long and 10.67 m wide vessel, manned by 43 men. Built in the USA in 1969, it suffered a fire in 2006 that forced a total reconstruction. The renovation resulted in a vessel with unique capabilities in Argentina, and in the summer of 2012/2013 it made its first trip to Antarctica, being the first ship of the Argentine Naval Prefecture to arrive and sail around Antarctica.

The power generation plant, managed by InteliGen Marine controllers in its LT version, ensures safe operation down to -40° C. These controllers allow for efficient and reliable energy management, essential for facing the extreme climatic conditions of the Antarctic region. The ability to operate at such low temperatures is crucial for missions in Antarctica, ensuring that all the vessel’s systems function optimally regardless of the weather.

In addition to its advanced power plant, the PNA SB-15 Tango is equipped with state-of-the-art technology that allows it to carry out patrol, research and rescue missions in the most adverse conditions. The reconstruction of the vessel included improvements in the navigation and communication systems, providing greater safety and operational efficiency. The mission of the PNA SB-15 Tango in Antarctica represents a significant milestone for the Argentine Naval Prefecture, highlighting its ability to operate in one of the most challenging environments on the planet. This vessel not only expands Argentina’s presence on the Antarctic continent, but also reinforces the country’s commitment to scientific research and environmental protection.
